We had a great turn out for
our first fall meeting. We also had several new members join. We
welcome each of you and hope that you will enjoy being a part of
BVAL. I am so excited about all the plans that are being made for
events, outings, and painting days. Here are a few of the plans we
are working on:
* Spring trip to Houston to
the Fine Art Museum.
*Plein Air Painting day at Miracle Farm.
*Plein Air Painting at Independence and Rose Emporium.
*Paint Day at the Gallery: Everyone paints the same picture
(photograph) using their own method and medium.
If you have ideas for art
trips or activities, please contact me as we are trying to get lots
of activities lined up so that there will be something of interest
to everyone.
I personally want to thank
Daniel for the wonderful work he has done on our web-site. It is
very nice and informative. Just an additional reminder, the web
address is: <http://www.bvartleague.org/>
.
I am looking forward to our
meeting on October 2. We will have a Stained glass demo by Mary's
Makings. Go to her web site and check her lovely art work - <http://www.marymakingdesigns.com/>
.
This has been an "exciting"
year for me as your President. I want you to know that I am
available to you by phone or email for any need you have as a member
of our League. See you at noon, October 2!
Thank you, Mary B.

BRAZOS VALLEY ART LEAGUE
Fall Juried Art Show
Texas Gallery, 2275 Dartmouth Dr. College Station, Texas 77840
LEGIBILITY
All entrants must reside within 200 miles of Houston. An artist may
have a maximum of three entries.
DIVISIONS AND CATEGORIES
Once an artist is established in one of the Artist Divisions, that
artist may move up to another division, but may never move down
regardless of any new art mediums worked in or submitted. If an
artist is moving up in an Artist Division, the artist will make that
change upon entering the first club show after the LSAG convention.
(Rule #96)
DIVISIONS - ARTISTS
I - Professional;
II - Semi-Professional;
III -Non-Professional - After two years of college art (4 courses),
or three years as an Adult Student, any LSAG member will
automatically be placed in the Non-Professional division. ( Rule
#9a)IV Adult Student - One who has painted, sculpted, etc., for less
than three years, (self study), or under the direction of a teacher.
The teacher may give any and all verbal assistance needed; however,
the teacher may not touch the artwork to be entered in a show.
Artists may compete in this division only three years.
CATEGORIES - ART WORKS
A Oil7 Acrylic/Porcelain (used in the manner of oils)
B Watercolor/Acrylic (used in the manner of watercolors)
C Pastel/Drawing (including pencil, pen & ink, charcoal drawings)
D Abstract/Experimental (includes abstract, collage, mixed media,
two or three dimensional work, etc. - determination to be made by
the artist whether to enter an artwork into A, B, C, or D)
E Photography
F Sculpture / Fine Jewelry
G Pottery / Porcelain: the entire work made by the artist. Note: in
the event of an unusually large show, a member art league may
further break down Art Categories; HOWEVER, the eligible entries
must be placed back in the above Art Categories for the LSAG
Convention show. General Note for A, B, C,
and D. Whether it has glass over it or not, consider rather, the techniques
and medium being used to produce the artwork rather than the frame
and/or covering.
ARTISTIC REQUIREMENTS:
All entries must be ORIGINAL IN CONCEPT AND DESIGN. There will be no
copies from either published materials or original works of art. The
artists should use their pictures or photographs as reference only
for particular subjects to be portrayed if no other access to these
subjects is available. Only the artist may work on a piece of art
work. No patterns, kits, or molds may be used, with the exception of
bronze castings from the artist's original work.
Work entered is to have been
completed within 24 months of the show. Work previously entered in a
BVAL show or which has won a blue ribbon or best of show at another
LSAG Show is not eligible for entry in this show. Because the show
is intended as an exhibit for the general public, the show committee
reserves the right to refuse work, which in their opinion, is
obscene or offensive.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
All work to be hung shall be framed, complete with wire, ready for
hanging. An exception is made in the Other Art Category. This work
may be unframed if it is finished to the edge. No work over 15
pounds or larger than the width of a flat (38 inches - measured to
the outside of the frame) is allowed. Please call if in doubt.
LIABILITY:
The BVAL will take reasonable precautions to prevent damage to or
loss of the work entered, however, artists are advised that they are
entering the show at their own risk. The BVAL will not be
responsible for damage or loss.
JUDGING AND AWARDS: -
There will be monetary or gift awards for Best of Show, Best Floral,
and BVAL Award. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st place overall in
each Division, and Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places
within each Category in each Division. The judge may award honorable
mention ribbons where merited. The judge is not obliged to award
place ribbons and may withhold ribbons if entries in a particular
Category do not merit them.
